Harrisburg/Hershey, Pennsylvania: The Sweetest Place on Earth

30 06 2010

Zip to the “sleeper hits” of Pennsylvania, where old-time paddleboat rides, Gettysburg re-enactments, and Hershey’s Kisses are the recipe for a sweet weekend.

Photo by IgoUgo.comThough less well-known than Philly, this capital’s vigorous development efforts–coupled with it?s passion for the arts–have catapulted Harrisburg into almost-famous status. There’s nary a weekend that goes by here without live jazz, local art festivals, or renowned chili cook-offs.

Ride bikes along Susquehana Riverfront Park, or get wet with a lazy-day paddleboat or canoe. Next, venture 20 minutes beyond city limits to taste your way through the famed Hershey Chocolate World?. Whirl on coasters (before chocolate tastings), then do your best to keep those Kisses from disappearing into grasping critter paws at the ZooAmerica wildlife park.

If the sugar buzz is still kicking, hike the historic National Battlefield trails, and delve into the Gettysburg battle through a “living historian” tour. Gallop across the 5,700-acre battlefield on horseback, or learn something new at over ten Civil War museums. You might think it’s all “fourscore and seven years ago,” but you can always hit the rapids or drop into a local winery.

This is a perfect, family-friendly vacation option for this summer, or any other time that suits you.

This vacation and others are now available for booking at www.soenstraveladvantures.com.  Enjoy!
